Abar Bibaho Obhijan is a continuation of the Bibaho Obhijan story and takes off after a jump of a few years. The film starts with Bullet Singh (Anirban Bhattacharya) being released from prison (he was sentenced in the first film). Once out, he finds Anupam (Ankush Hazra) and Rajat (Rudranil Ghosh) and tells them that he has been given a hotel in Bangkok worth Rupees 100 crores, and he wants to give half of it to them. The duo can’t resist the temptation and decide to accompany Bullet to Bangkok to claim and split the property. Once there, they face strange and funny incidents.
The plot is extremely slow in the first half, which has plenty of scope for physical and verbal comedy, but hardly elicits laughs. The plot is further slowed down by blatant advertorial product placements (jewellery, condoms, medicine), and till the trio leave for Bangkok, things hardly move. The second half has a better pace, with a bunch of new characters being introduced. The most memorable of these is Michael (Sourav Das), who manages to incite a considerable number of funny moments.
This is followed by several plot twists as well as a running theme of distorting some words to make them sound more like a particular country’s accent. At times, the audience is unable to keep up with the language and what the characters are saying without subtitles.
Anirban and Rudranil fare well in the wordplay, with the former speaking in a strange accent that sounds, at times, like Mousumi Chatterjee’s character in Ogo Bodhu Sundori. Otherwise, Anirban is perhaps the most entertaining in the lot, followed closely by Rudranil. Out of the three female characters, Sohini has the meatiest role, and she dramatises it to the hilt.
The compositions by Jeet Gannguli are quite peppy, especially Mon Bajare that has a nice beat to it. However, the utter absurdity of the plot and lack of character development makes Abar Bibaho Obhijan a one-time watch, even for those who are okay with slapstick comedy without any logic.
